Professor Avishalom Westreich is the new President of Herzog Academic College.
He brings to the role his rich academic experience at various institutions, including Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Hebrew University. His research work strives to integrate Torah and academia, and recently he has also engaged in the fields of teaching, society, and community. Until 2026 he was Associate Professor at the Academic Center of Law and Business in Ramat Gan, a research fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem, and a lecturer at Talpiot College.
Over the past 2.5 years, Prof. Westreich also served as an active reserve intelligence officer in the IDF Northern Intelligence Unit, serving over 300 Reserve days during the “Swords of Iron” war. His participation sharpened his desire to leave the “ivory tower” of academia in order to engage in educating the next generation.
We welcome Prof. Westreich and wish him a quiet and fruitful tenure as president of Israel’s leading religious teacher training college.
